In honor of FPP team member, Julie Novak, who passed away September 2024, The Future Perfect Project has partnered with the Fine Arts Work Center in Massachusetts to offer an exciting residency open to all LGBTQ+ writers, ages 18-22, who exemplify originality in their writing.
RECIPIENTS RECEIVE:
💫 No-cost mentorship for 4 months (May – September) with a dedicated LGBTQ+ writer-mentor.
🗓️ Scholarship for a one-week writing workshop at The Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown during summer.
✈️ Housing, meals, round-trip travel to Provincetown, MA.

About FAWC
The Fine Arts Work Center is an artist-led organization based in Provincetown, MA connected to the world.
Since 1968, FAWC has supported artistic freedom for emerging writers and artists through its acclaimed seven-month Fellowship program, nurturing creative work that matters to the larger culture.
We are so proud to partner with the prestigious Fine Arts Work Center to make this residency possible.
Each year, roughly 1,500 artists and writers apply for just 20 Fellowship spots, making FAWC one of the most competitive and renowned residency programs in the world. Alumni have gone on to win Pulitzer Prizes, National Book Awards, MacArthur Fellowships, and the Nobel Prize in Literature, with visual artists exhibiting at MoMA, the Whitney, and the Venice Biennale. Beyond the Fellowship, FAWC's Summer Workshop Program, FAWC Online, and year-round public events sustain Provincetown's art community for thousands of visitors, students, and artists each year.
About Julie Novak
The Julie Novak "Original Voice" Writer's Residency honors the life and legacy of Julie Novak, a beloved member of the FPP team who passed away in 2024. Julie was a rare mix of big heart, punk rock spirit, and stand-up-comic humor — and she brought that same originality to her work amplifying the voices of LGBTQIA+ youth.
She didn't just work on behalf of the young people FPP serves; she loved them, wholeheartedly and without reservation. Julie's devotion to this generation's particular genius shaped some of FPP's most beloved projects.
Launched in 2025, one year after her passing, this residency carries her spirit forward — seeking writers with the same clear originality of voice that Julie championed in everyone she worked with.
As she liked to say, there's "no one like you."
